Our Random Thoughts Report highlights and opines on some of the interesting, at times amazing, things we that we come across in conducting our research.
According to information we received, "the SEC conducted an investigation entitled Elan Corp. that opened on July 24, 2001 and closed on September 26, 2012."
That's not a typo. Elan was under investigation by the SEC for more than a decade. It happens.
We found a news item from 2002 which points to an accounting scandal at the time. Other stories out there that speak of insider trading matters.
For ten years this company used shareholder resources, lots of lawyers, and executive time to deal with this matter. The SEC used taxpayer resources for the same. But it will never release the report that tells us why the investigation was opened, the work performed and the conclusions reached. Those reports that are disclosed provide the scantiest of detail. How is this good for investors?
